Mobile Internet usage in India has skyrocketed in the past 18 months, and new research shows that this trend will put mobile access above desktop by the end of 2012. India is far outpacing the worldwide average, which currently sits at approximately 7% mobile usage vs. 93% desktop. Why the significant disparity? Currently the price of Internet access is prohibitive for much of the country, and when coupled with infrastructure issues that restrict access in rural areas, mobile has emerged as the most cost effective and convenient solution.
